From the time she joined the national team, much was expected of Angela Ghimpu. Her international debut was the 1993 Balkan Championship in which she placed first with her team. The next year she placed second individually at the 1994 Grand Prix Championships.
The high expectations placed on this gymnast, unfortunately, were never reached. Injuries took their toll on the young gymnast and forced her to retire in 1995, at only seventeen years old. Her last international competition was the 1994 DBT Cup in Stuttgart, where she placed 4th on vault, 7th on bars, and 6th on beam.
